Specccccccctacular – Sheldon Brown wants out

As seen on ESPN (and directed to check there by the comments section at IgglesBlog), Sheldon Brown wanted to renegotiate his contract. The Eagles said no. Now,  Sheldon wants a trade.

Damnit.

You know, I was still enjoying the buzz from yesterday. I was feeling good about Jason Peters coming to town, and the prospect of the Eagles drafting a guy like Knowshon Moreno. And now this has to go and happen. Friggin’ awesome. Continue reading

Would you make this move if you were the Eagles?

Let’s play the Pundit’s brand new blogging game show, “Would you make this move?”

Here’s a practice question, to get everybody warmed up: With the recent expulsion of Dan Leone, the Eagles have been in the news for reasons they probably don’t like. While many fans side with the Eagles, a rather large group remains disgruntled with the organization. If you were the Eagles, would you sign Kimberly Swann – as an act of good-will toward the fans – to replace Mr. Leone?

Alright, enough of the horseplay – let’s get down to some serious Eagles business. So I’m listening to a little bit of the Jody Mac show on ESPN Radio this morning, and I hear them talking about poor, embittered little Jay Cutler, who is putting it out there that he ain’t happy, and would like a trade if the Broncos don’t want to commit to him long-term. And they get to talking about what teams might be a fit, and your Philadelphia Eagles come up. So I ask:

Would you trade Donovan McNabb to the Broncos for Jay Cutler? Continue reading

A guy the Eagles may have been saving up for?

Per Profootballtalk.com:

The St. Louis Rams have announced that tackle Orlando Pace, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1997 draft, has been released.

We recently were told that the Rams had been “trying like hell” to trade Pace.  Howard Balzer of the Sports Xchange pointed out earlier today that the move will save the Rams $5.975 million against the 2009 salary cap.

I’m torn on whether or not the Eagles should make a play at Pace, and whether or not they even would. Continue reading

McNabb pays homage to Dawk and Tra; the Pundit wonders if remarks should be over-analyzed

Donovan McNabb has blogged once more, saying a few final words for some vanquished teammates. From Yardbarker:

I have been a part of the Philadelphia Eagles for 10 years and I have not played a game, attended a practice, sweated in training camp, built a playground or participated in a Carnival, and more importantly dreamed of a championship parade, without Brian Dawkins and Tra Thomas being a part of it. We all had a goal of bringing a championship to this city and while we didn’t achieve that goal, we have had a lot of successes during our time together.

Kind of touching, actually, and certainly pangs at the soul a bit. But here I propose a question, in the glorious tradition of analyzing the hell out of every single thing that happens around the Eagles: wasn’t the timing of this, in conjunction with the Dan Leone story that got national play, terrible for the Eagles? McNabb is certainly playing his hand…But will he be playing here much longer?

And here I thought the bankruptcy of the Philadelphia Newspapers LLC was going to be the news we all flocked to.

But never fear, for Donovan McNabb is here! At least for now, that is.

I have to say – this latest tidbit, about Donovan only restructuring his deal if the Eagles bring in more playmakers, is interesting on a number of fronts. First, what was reported.

Although McNabb wants to remain in Philadelphia, if the Eagles aren’t successful in significantly upgrading an offense that needs help at wide receiver, running back and offensive tackle (veterans Jon Runyan and Tra Thomas are free agents beginning Friday), not only may McNabb drop his request for a new contract, he may consider going as far as to ask the Eagles to trade him.

Ah, and the plot thickens. Continue reading

Anybody else think Julius Peppers would look good in green?

If you haven’t been following the Julius Peppers situation, this article gives the full recount. In brief, Peppers wants out of Carolina, and part of his reasoning was that he wants to move from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3. Or, in the very least, to a different system.

Right. That’s the reason. Because despite the fact that he’s the ideal model of a 4-3 defensive end, the real reason he wants to leave Carolina is to play the 3-4.

Bull. He wants out. Like all of their assistant coaches. Continue reading

Shave them playoff beards – The Pundit finds five reasons for the Eagles’ defeat

I’ve gotta say, I’m still a bit shell shocked. Sure, this game had potential disaster written all over it; after all, it seemed as though this team was destined for a title. Got a little bit ahead of ourselves, didn’t we? Tomorrow morning, I’ll put out a post arguing that we had misinterpreted this team for much of the season, and yesterday was just the cherry on the top of a slew of strange Sundays. For now, I’ll quickly list the top five reasons our Birds tasted defeat yesterday.

1. Jim Johnson Continue reading
